Institutional
Yes, you are studying in the best city to study in Ibero-America according to QS Best Student Cities Ranking.
It reached the 25th position globally, above the cities of Latin America, Spain and Portugal. The index includes indicators of educational quality, diversity of university students and the affordability of the city, among others. In 2017, 61,000 international young people chose Buenos Aires to study.
Buenos Aires is consolidated as one of the leading cities of talent. A new edition of the QS university ranking, published today, distinguishes it as the best in Latin America for students.
"The mobility of international students is an attribute that distinguishes global cities, stimulates the circulation of talent and the production of knowledge. Today Buenos Aires is consolidated as a talent capital in Latin America and is a city where young people come to study", said Fernando Straface, Secretary General and International Relations of the City.
The ranking 2018 of the British consultancy Quacquarelli Symonds shows an exponential growth of the Argentine capital, which went from position 42 to 25 globally. The analysis includes variables such as the educational level of the universities, the number and diversity of university students and the desirability and affordability of the city.
Last year, 61,000 international students chose the City to study for less than a year, usually in exchange programs, postgraduate courses, master's degrees or short courses. In 2017, the Tourism Agency of the City Government, through the Study Buenos Aires program, signed an agreement with 22 universities, among others the UBA, to promote the arrival of international students. The agreement seeks to deepen the internationalization of the classrooms, a fundamental factor for the rankings of educational quality.
"The international promotion, the statistical survey and a website that we will launch this year with the whole educational offer are concrete milestones that we carry out to enhance this phenomenon that benefits the city and its universities", explained Alfredo Fragueiro, Director of Offer and Study Buenos Aires.
"In the medium term, these students become spokespersons for the university, urban, social and cultural reality of which they were a part. This brings enormous benefits for the City: that is why, by 2021, we intend to double the number of international students that come to Buenos Aires, "concluded Straface.
