LATAM Scholarships: the City of Buenos Aires welcomes the 24 winners who will study postgraduate courses and short courses online

Through the Study Buenos Aires program, the City welcomed the winners of the LATAM scholarships who will begin the academic year virtually. The event was attended by the young winners, authorities of the City Government, the 14 universities that awarded the scholarships and members of Universal Assistance.

On April 13, the event was held to symbolically welcome the 24 scholarship winners to the city. The call for applications was open from October 2, 2020 until November 20 through the Study Buenos Aires program, which works to attract international students to the city. On this occasion, the scholarships offered were for Latin American graduates interested in completing their studies in Buenos Aires. The program offers a full scholarship to pursue a postgraduate degree at the participating universities and more than one thousand young people from 19 different countries registered. 

The event took place virtually and was attended by Francisco Resnicoff, Undersecretary of International Relations of the City Government, authorities from the 14 universities that took part in the program (the Barceló Foundation, the Instituto Tecnológico de Buenos Aires, the Universidad Abierta Interamericana, the Universidad Católica Argentina, Universidad de Ciencias Empresariales y Sociales, Universidad del CEMA, Universidad Nacional de Quilmes, Universidad Nacional de San Martín, Universidad Nacional de Lanús, Universidad Nacional del Noroeste de la Provincia de Buenos Aires, Universidad de San Andrés, Universidad del Salvador, Universidad Siglo 21 and Universidad Torcuato Di Tella); Diego Baron, Regional Marketing Director of Universal Assistance, sponsor of the scholarship program, and the graduates selected as winners and cultural representatives of their country.

The winners from Colombia, Mexico, Ecuador, Chile, Dominican Republic, Honduras, Guatemala and Bolivia will have the opportunity to participate in the program. Honduras, Guatemala, Bolivia, will have the unique opportunity to live a multicultural experience while acquiring new academic knowledge.

Francisco Resnicoff emphasized the importance of promoting this type of initiatives in order to continue promoting the city as a destination for international academic mobility; 

"We know that the current context presents us with great challenges, but also enormous opportunities for learning and adaptation in terms of international mobility, understanding that it is a reality that exists and that, year after year, it grows more in the world and in our city. We are strongly committed to making Buenos Aires a great university city, and we know that we have everything to be one, from the educational quality of our institutions to the culture that runs through every corner of Buenos Aires. Thank you for choosing us, and we hope you can come and visit us soon".  

Universal Assistance also announced that it will provide the scholarship winners with one month of coverage from the moment the students arrive in Buenos Aires. Among the benefits offered by the assistance, there is a coverage of u$s 80,000 per person, medical assistance by Covid-19, medication expenses, loss of luggage and medical repatriation, among others. The company emphasized.

"Our commitment is to accompany them so that their experience is safe and smooth since we understand that there is no better way to travel than learning along the way."

The selected students will begin their postgraduate studies remotely in March and August of this year in the hope of being able to return to the classroom soon.
